SPOKANE - The Spokane Indians scored four runs in the first inning and let the pitching staff do the rest of the work, as they beat Yakima Tuesday 6-1 to win the 2010 Northwest League East Division Title. The Indians swept the Bears 2-0 in the best-of-three series.
Scoring came easy for the Indians. Hits, on the other hand, were a rarity, as Spokane only had four on the night. Yakima starting pitcher Enrique Burgos gave up seven walks and all four Spokane hits.
Three of the four hits came in the first off doubles by third baseman Michael Olt and designated hitter Josh Richmond. The two hits scored the first three runs for the Indians. Second baseman Santiago Chirino hit a single into right field that scored Richmond later in the inning.
Starting pitcher Randol Rojas logged six strong innings for the Indians. He allowed one run on six hits while striking out four. The Indians’ bullpen took care of the rest, as relief pitchers Tim Steggall, Jimmy Reyes and Colby Killian allowed just one hit in three innings.
The Indians will host the Everett AquaSox on Thursday in game one of the 2010 NWL Championship
