SPOKANE - Shea Vucinich's RBI triple in the seventh inning broke a scoreless tie and helped Washington State sweep the season series from Gonzaga with a 2-0 win Tuesday at the Patterson Baseball Complex.
The Cougars (32-18) stretched their winning streak to six games, while snapping the Bulldogs' (20-33) five-game winning streak. WSU won all three meetings with Gonzaga this season.
Paris Shewey earned the victory in his first start of the season, allowing just three hits and striking out six over seven shutout innings.
Liam Baron was saddled with the loss, despite giving up just two earned runs in seven and two-thirds innings. He also struck out six.
The Cougars scored both of their runs in the top half of the seventh. After Derek Jones hit a leadoff double, Vucinich drove him in with the triple. Vucinich then scored the second run on a sacrifice fly from Matt Argyropolous.
WSU will host Portland on Wednesday. Gonzaga will visit Portland on Friday.
