Wilson is Backbone of Blackhawks' Defense

Cheney senior Andrew Wilson loves being a goalkeeper.  And it's not just because it requires less running.

"It's just - it's the most pressure.  And I like the pressure of the game," said Wilson.  "And, I don't know, I feel as though I'm kind of like a general back there and I get to sort stuff out."

The Blackhawks' general helped them reach the 2A state championship game last year.  But this year, Andrew's leadership is what's impressed head coach Mark Kiver the most.

"He really knows all the positions, all the players, so he's really helping the young players that are playing in front of him really learn the game themselves.  So he's actually kind of a second coach on the field for us and he does a phenomenal job of doing that."

And while Andrew's always been solid in the net, he plans to keep using a net, when he goes to the University of Washington this fall to study aquatic and fishery sciences.

"Well, ever since I was young, I was kind of a good fisherman.  And, you know, science is kind of my thing.  So kind of putting them together," said Wilson.

"Everything's important to him," added Kiver.  "He knows that the reason he's out here on the field is because of his academics and you have to keep that up."

And this keeper would love to keep the Blackhawks winning, right through the 2A title game.
