Pirates headed east for DIII Sweet 16

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The NCAA Division III men's basketball committee has selected the four sites for the sectional rounds of the national tournament and Whitworth University is headed to Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The fourth-ranked Pirates (26-2) will play 10th-ranked Eastern Mennonite (24-4) on Friday night in one sectional semifinal. Third-ranked Guilford (28-2) will host 17th-ranked Wooster in the other sectional semifinal. Game times are still to be determined.

Whitworth is making its third Sweet 16 appearance in the last two years. The Pirates defeated Chapman 77-56 in the second round of the NCAA DIII tournament on Saturday.

Eastern Mennonite, of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, won two games on its home floor in the opening rounds of the tournament. The Royals defeated Centre College 63-53 and topped Wilmington 85-71. EMC is located in Harrisonburg, Va.

The three other sectional hosts are Williams College, Wisconsin-Steven Point and St. Mary's (Md.).
