SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Jarod Gunning and Morgan Scharff scored 12 points apiece as Davenport beat La Conner 53-45 for third-place in the Class 2B boys state tournament Saturday.
Davenport (18-6) led 41-29 early in the fourth quarter but the lead was cut to 45-39 with 1:30 left. The Gorillas would not let La Conner get any closer.
Scharff, a 6-foot-9 senior, controlled the paint with six blocked shots and eight rebounds. This was the final game for seven Davenport seniors, a year after they won the 2009 second-place trophy.
La Conner (19-5) was led by Spencer Novak with 13 points on 5 of 12 shooting. The Braves shot just 25.8 percent and were 6 of 26 from 3-point range.
