The season came to an early end for the Cheney High School boys basketball team, but it may be just the beginning for one senior's athletic career. Cheney senior DeAngelo Jones loves the game of basketball. "Growing up, it's just been something I love to do and we have really good coaches. They're great guys to be around, they taught me a lot not just about basketball but just stuff, good things in general," Jones said. "He's always wanting to learn, he's always wanting to work harder," said Cheney head coach Ryan Fitzgerald Hard work and discipline is nothing new to Jones. He has a father who works at Geiger Correctional Facility and he helps keep Jones in line. "It's all for love I guess, growing up a military kid defintally know how it is. I know the rules, I don't have to be told twice," Jones said. Jones has some tough decisions to make this year, as he will have an opportunity next year to play in college. However, jones will have to pick which sport he will want to play. Jones has been invited to play in the all-state basketball game later this month, and he is also an all-league quarterback, and two time state placer in track. "He's really fortunate as I've explained to him that he has multiple opportunities to go to college to compete so it's flattering," Fitzgerald said. Jones has been a key part in Cheney High School athletics for three years, and his time is almost up "I'm definatly going to miss the coaches and friendships I've developed with my four year friends like my seniors and stuff," Jones said. "He's a kid we're gonna miss him basketball wise, but the school and community is gonna miss him as a person," said Fitzgerald.
