EUGENE, OR - The Spokane Indians opened the second half of the Northwest League season the same way they started the first - with a loss. But that may not be a bad thing.
The Eugene Emeralds defeated the Indians 5-4 Wednesday at PK Park, scoring the game-winning run on Kevin Rodland's fielding error in the eighth inning.
Texas Rangers' first-round draft pick Jake Skole went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in all three runs for the Indians (0-1).
Spokane started the first half by losing seven of their first eight games. But the responded by winning 21 of their next 30 to claim the first half East Division title.
The five-game series continues Thursday in Eugene.
