SPOKANE - With home field advantage throughout the Arena Bowl already in hand, it would seem the Spokane Shock doesn't have much to play for in its regular season finale at Jacksonville Friday. Just don't tell them that.
"This is a playoff team," said defensive back Alex Teems, a former Washington State Cougar, of the Sharks. "It's going to be good for us to play hard against them and see where we are as a team."
"If you take this out of the context of our season and this playoff run, it's a football game. You want to win every football game," said quarterback Kyle Rowley. "You know, why do you want to win youth football games? Because you have pride and you have a talent you want to prove to people."
The Shock has been proving people wrong all season, as they've racked up a 13-2 record on the strength on an eleven-game winning streak, in its first season in the AFL.
Still, Jacksonville (11-4) has more riding on the outcome of this game. The Sharks are tied with Tampa Bay for the top spot in the American Conference and the South Division.
The Shock beat the Sharks 67-57 on May 29 in Spokane.
