SPOKANE - When the Indians needed some support, a crowd of 4,832 screaming Indians fans got behind them and helped rally the team to a 6-2 victory over the Yakima Bears and into first place in the NWL East Division.
The Indians who were held scoreless last night, made sure that tonight would be different. Right fielder Josh Richmond got the scoring started in the second inning after he was hit by a pitch. He turned that hit by a pitch into two stolen bases and a run scored on second baseman Santiago Chirino's
ground out.
Spokane took the lead in the third inning when left fielder Jared Hoying blasted a two-run home run over The Depot presented by Black Book in right field. Hoying was 3 for 4 tonight, scoring two runs and driving in two RBIs.
In the fifth, the Indians added two more runs to their lead when shortstop Jurickson Profar drove in centerfielder Ryan Strausborger on a sacrifice fly. Two batters later first baseman Andrew Clark drove in Hoying to give the Indians a 5-2 advantage.
Starting pitcher Chad Bell gave the Indians the outing they needed, going seven innings, giving up just two runs on four hits. Bell was able to give the Indians bullpen a much needed break after pitching 15 innings in the last two games.
The win moves the Indians to first place in the NWL East Division by a half game over the Boise Hawks, who lost tonight against the Tri-City Dust Devils 13-3. The Indians have four games remaining in the first half, Boise has three.
The Indians will start a four game series Saturday evening against the Tri-City Dust Devils.
