SPOKANE - Kyle Beach scored a pair of first period goals, as the Spokane Chiefs beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 on Friday, in their first home game in nearly three weeks.
The Chiefs (29-18-3-1) recently completed a season long, eight game road trip, while the U.S. Figure Skating Championships were in Spokane.
Beach opened the scoring at the 3:51 mark of the first, when he took a loose puck off the back wall and beat a slow reacting Calvin Pickard. Anthony Bardaro make it 2-0 Chiefs just 90 seconds later with his third goal of the season.
Late in the first, Burke Gallimore put the T-Birds on the board with an unassisted goal. But Burke fired home a wrister 29 seconds later, to make it 3-1 Chiefs after the opening period.
Prab Rai's power play goal in the third period again pulled Seattle within one. But Levko Koper put it away with an empty netter in the final seconds.
Goaltender James Reid stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced.
The Chiefs will host the Kootenay Ice on Saturday.
