Postseason play is underway all over Washington State and one local teen is leading the way for the Freeman Scotties, who have a good chance of bringing home a gold ball next week.
Freeman senior Katie Bauer has helped lead the Scotties to a 21 to 1 record so far this season.
“I'v enjoyed it a lot I've been playing with these same four seniors and it's been fun growing and playing with them,” Bauer said.
“Shes just a great worker, she's vary coachable, always has a positive attitude on and off the floor, I don't think I've ever seen her with a frown on her face,” Head Coach Ashlee Taylor said.
Bauer doesn't light up the scoreboard, but her role as a defensive player is just as important to the success of the team.
“It's just how I've always played, I've never been a high scorer, but so I've tried to do other things to help out,” Bauer said.
“She does play soccer, and she does tennis and she's a very quick kid and is able to get in there and get steals,” Taylor said.
Bauer takes her hard-working mentality into the classroom as well, as she has been very close to perfect.
“It's hard because I have a lot of homeowork and I'm taking two [advanced placement' classes so I have a lot of homeowrk and I just have to make time,” Bauer said.
“She's very studious like 3.98 you can't ask fo rmuch more, teachers have to love her, she's just a great kid,” Taylor said.
Bauer and the Scotties hope their hard work continues to pay off, as they have their sights set on a state title.
