CRANBROOK, B.C. - The Spokane Chiefs won their season-high sixth straight game, as they rallied for a 6-4 win over the Kootenay Ice Friday night in Cranbrook, B.C.
Anthony Bardaro staked the Chiefs to a 1-0 lead with his fourth goal of the year from Kenton Miller at 2:45 of the first period. Stephan Ulmer’s shot from the point at 5:09 of the period would make it 2-0 Spokane. Kootenay would cut the lead to 2-1 on Matt Fraser’s goal at 7:50 of the period. Spokane would counter as Kyle Beach took a Blake Gal pass in the slot and snapped it home for his league leading 46th goal of the year to give Spokane a 3-1 lead after one.
Kootenay would score a shorthanded goal at 12:09 to cut the lead to 3-2. Kootenay would even the game at 13:55 and then take the lead 4-3 on a Brayden McNabb goal at 18:26. Ulmer would tally his second goal of the night on a slap shot from the right blue line at 18:52 to even the game at 4-4 after two periods.
Brady Brassart would give the Chiefs a 5-4 lead with his seventh goal of the year from Tyler Johnson and Stephan Ulmer at 3:36 of the third period. Levko Koper’s empty net goal, his 24th of the year, at 19:59 capped the scoring for the Chiefs.
James Reid had 25 saves in picking up his 31st win of the year.
The Chiefs will finish their three-game road trip Saturday night when they visit the Tri City Americans.
