SPOKANE - The Spokane Indians announced Monday they have signed a two-year extension to remain the Short Season Single-A affiliate for the Texas Rangers. The extension with the Rangers will run through the 2012 season.
The Rangers also agreed to terms with Double A affiliate Frisco RoughRiders on a four-year extension through the 2014 season and a two-year extension with Low Single A affiliate Hickory Crawdads, which will run through 2012.
“The Rangers are very pleased to be able to continue our relationships with Frisco, Hickory and Spokane,” commented Rangers’ Senior Director of Player Development Scott Servais. “The efforts of everyone at those three clubs have helped play into the organization’s success over the last several
years. We are happy to be going back.”
The Indians have had a great partnership with the Rangers since joining their player development system in 2003. The Indians have won three Northwest League Championships, (2003, 2005, 2008) and have qualified for the playoffs this season, winning the First Half East Division championship.
In addition, Texas has sent Spokane nine first round picks in the last seven seasons, including 2010 first round picks, center fielder Jake Skole, catcher Kellin Deglan and third baseman Michael Olt. Since partnering with the Texas Rangers, 25 future major leaguers have come through Spokane, including All-Star pitchers John Danks (2003), Neftali Feliz (2007) and All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler (2003).
The Indians and Hawks play the final home game of the 2010 regular season tonight at Avista Stadium.
