SPOKANE - The Indians gave up seven runs in the ninth inning to Boise, as the Hawks spoiled the home season finale for Spokane with an 8-5 victory Monday. The Indians finish the regular season with a home record of 27-10.
Trailing 1-0, the Indians tied the game in the fifth inning when catcher Brett Nicholas hit his third home run of the 2010 season. The Indians took the lead in the sixth inning with a triple by right fielder Josh Richmond that scored first baseman Andrew Clark. Richmond scored off a Nicholas
single past the shortstop making it 3-1.
Left fielder Ryan Strausborger beat out the double play throw from shortstop Elliot Soto in the seventh inning, and would later score on center fielder Jake Skole single to right field. Strausborger stole two bases on the night, tying him for 4th in the NWL with 18 steals. Clark scored again in the eighth inning off a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Kellin Deglan.
Leading 5-1 in the top of the ninth, the Indians allowed four consecutive singles, and a bases clearing triple making it 5-5. A double by Soto and a triple by second baseman Pierre Lepage gave the Hawks the 7-5 advantage. The Hawks scored one more in the ninth, giving them the 8-5 advantage. Boise pitcher Aaron Kurcz closed out the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Hawks the victory.
The Indians had a near sell out tonight, with 6,213 fans in attendance. Monday’s game put the Indians over 175,000 in total attendance for the season, an average of 4,737 per game.
The Indians travel to Boise to take on the Hawks in a three game series before heading to the Tri-Cities for three games to finish out the season.
