SPOKANE - Thirty-five players remain in Spokane after the Chiefs Annual Fall Camp concluded on Sunday in the Red-White Scrimmage. Spokane is currently carrying four goaltenders, 12 defensemen and 19 forwards.
Included in the 35 players is 1995 born defenseman Tyler Cunningham, the Chiefs first round selection, 17th overall, in this last spring's WHL Bantam Draft. Cunningham will make his Spokane debut this weekend when Spokane travels to Everett to play three exhibition games. The Pilot Butte, SK native scored 14 goals and 43 points in 25 games last year with the Notre Dame Hounds.
Cunningham is joined by three other Spokane first round draft picks; Reid Gow ('09-16th overall), Mitch Holmberg ('08-21st overall) and Mike Betz ('07-12th overall).
The Chiefs will begin their seven game pre-season schedule with three contests this week in Everett at the Silvertips Pre-Season Classic. Spokane will play Tri-City, Seattle and Portland on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
"We're going to practice and implement some systems so we look like a team over there, but we're still also in the evaluation phase," Chiefs Head Coach Don Nachbaur said.
After taking Monday off as a team, the Chiefs will practice in the Spokane Arena on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Spokane will travel to Everett on Friday for their 3:00 date with the Americans. Saturday and Sunday's games will be played at 11:30 am.
