SPOKANE -- Team Red overcame a two goal third period by Team White and held on for a 4-3 shootout win on Sunday afternoon in the Spokane Arena in the Annual Red-White scrimmage. The game, which signifies the end of the Chiefs Fall Camp, was played in front of 2,642 fans. "It's all falling into place," Head Coach Don Nachbaur said after his first camp as a Chief. "The first step with training camp was giving the list players and draft picks the opportunity to play with our returning guys and it's a great experience for them. I think we've kept the right guys around." Spokane will now embark on a seven game pre-season schedule including a home game on Saturday, September 18th when the Kootenay Ice visit Eagles Ice-A-Rena. "The next step is battling against another team," Nachbaur said. "That is where the competition level goes up another step. That's going to be interesting to see." Brendan Kichton scored two goals for Team White while Dominik Uher had a goal and assist for the winners. Uher staked the Red squad to a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period. The 18-year-old from the Czech Republic took a cross crease pass from Cole Hamblin to tuck it in the right post. Collin Valcourt, from Red Deer, Alberta, also assisted on the goal. At 7:55 of the second Kichton evened the score with an assist from rookie import Marek Kalus. Red pulled away with the next two, the first coming off Tyler Johnson's stick at 11:02. Kenton Miller forced a turnover at the blue line and fed it down the boards to Uher who found Johnson all alone in front of Michael Tadjdeh in White's net. Johnson roofed it with a backhand to make it 2-1 Red. Seventeen-year-old Mitch Holmberg redirected a Bo Pellah shot at 15:11 for a 3-1 Red lead. Steven Kuhn also assisted on the play. Red would take that two goal lead into the final 20-minutes of regulation. White scored the only two goals of the third period, the first coming shorthanded by Blake Gal. Kichton then scored his second of the game to tie the score with just 1:17 remaining. Josh McEwan and Joel Rogers assisted. In the shootout, all three Red shooters, Mitch Holmberg, Anthony Paskaruk and Tyler Johnson, scored. Anthony Bardaro and Tyler Vanscourt scored for Team White while Mike Betz was stopped on his try. Veteran James Reid started in net for Team White and stopped 15 of 16 shots. Tadjdeh was 17-19 in the second period. Chris Sharkey was 12-12 in the third period and overtime. For Team Red, Mac Engel started the game and was 17-18, including a perfect 12-12 in the first, in 29:34 of work. Brendan Edie was 17-19 in 35:26. The Chiefs will play three preseason games in Everett at the Silvertips annual Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic next weekend. Spokane will take on Tri-City, Seattle and Portland on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
