Emeralds Edge Indians in Series Finale

SPOKANE - Solid pitching from Eugene starting pitcher Dexter Carter gave Indians' hitters headaches all night, as Spokane fell 3-2 Monday.  However, the Indians still won the series against the Emeralds three games to two.

Carter went six innings, striking out nine batters, before first baseman Clark Murphy scored on catcher Brett Nicholas' double to left field. Second baseman Alejandro Selen drove in Nicholas later in the inning.  But two runs were all the Indians could muster.

Indian's starting pitcher Nicholas McBride pitched well, going five innings, giving up two runs on five hits. McBride allowed only one walk, and struck out five, in the loss.

Right fielder Ryan Strausborger singled in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Strausborger ended the series against Eugene 12 for 23, raising his batting average from .246 to .279.

The Indians travel to Yakima tomorrow for a three-game series with the division-leading Bears.
