SPOKANE - The Outlaws of Midwest City, Oklahoma are the 2010 American Legion World Series champions, after posting a pair of impressive wins over Eden Prairie, Minnesota Tuesday at Avista Stadium.
Midwest City avenged an earlier loss to Eden Prairie with an 11-6 victory in Tuesday's opening game. That was the Minnesota's team first loss of the tournament, setting up a winner take all showdown in game two.
And the Outlaws dominated from the opening frame, as Greg Nelson connected on a two-run home run in the first inning. And Midwest City never looked back, building an 8-0 lead and cruising to a 10-1 win.
Nelson finished 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs batted in. Dalton Bernardi had three hits and three RBIs.
Bernardi, who doubles as a pitcher for the Outlaws, was named the tournament's most valuable player.
Midwest City finished the season with a 66-10 record. Eden Prairie went 39-9.
