SPOKANE - The Whitworth Pirates opened fall football camp on Monday afternoon with more than 90 players hitting the field for the first practice.
Longtime head coach John Tully returns 15 starters from a team that finished 5-5 last season and is picked to finish fourth in the Northwest Conference this season.
Tully's most significant returner is senior running back Adam Anderson. The All-American missed nearly all of last season with a severly sprained ankle.
But like the rest of his teammates, Anderson is ready to go.
"Everybody's excited to play. You know, it's not like half the people are excited to play. Everybody, even the new guys, even the freshmen, transfers, everybody here is excited to play, ready to play, ready to do their job," said the senior from Riverside High School.
Tully agrees.
"They look good. They came in ready to play and now to be able to be out here, we're finally done with all the testing, all the physicals, everything else. We're out at practice and this is when the fun time happens."
Whitworth opens the season on September 4, when they host Hardin-Simmons at the Pine Bowl.
