The Calgary Hitmen scored four first period goals and shut out the Tri-City Americans 7-0 Friday night in game one of the WHL Finals.
Calgary's Cody Sylvester opened the scoring on a breakaway at the 6:08 mark of the first period, putting the puck through the legs of Drew Owsley.
At the 9:12 mark, Matt Mackenzie scored the first of two straight power play goals for the Hitmen. Mackenzie's second came just :49 later and made it 3-0. Misha Fishenko scored his first of two on the night :51 later, chasing Owsley, and the rout was on.
Brandon Kozun and Ben Wilson also scored for the Hitmen, who also shut out the Americans during the teams only regular season meeting, 3-0 on January 31st.
The final three goals were scored against the Americans Alexander Pechurskiy, who replaced Owlsey after the Ams starter allowed four goals on just nine shots.
Ironically, the Americans outshot the Hitmen 26-23 but never seriously threatened Calgary goalie Martin Jones. Calgary was 2-4 on the power play and the Americans were 0-5
