Indians beat Bears in first game of final series
SPOKANE -- Tomas Telis' eighth inning home run was the icing on the cake for the Spokane Indians who beat the Yakima Bears 3-0 in their final series of the regular season Friday evening at Avista Stadium.

Following a pair of away game losses against the Boise Hawks, the Indians found their rhythm in front of a hometown crowd.

Spokane's bullpen combined for nine scoreless innings of baseball. Braden Tullis tossed for five of those, allowing four hits and striking out five. Lefty Joseph Ortiz relived Tullis and in two innings of work allowed two hits and grabbed three strike outs. Kyle O'Campo was credited with the save.

On the offensive side, Spokane put their first run on the board in the second inning when Telis scored from third base on a Yakima double play.

The Indians showed defensive strength, shutting down most of the Bears offensive chances. Catcher Billy O'Conner caught Yakima's Gerson Montilla stealing third in the second inning after Astolfo Inciarte was called out on strikes. The double play of sorts ended the inning for the Indians.

The Bears couldn't get anything going as their chances were dashed by numerous quick innings filled with strikeouts and double plays.

Jared Prince doubled on a fly ball to get things started in the fourth inning. Prince would later score on an RBI single by Daniel Lima to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

Telis' lone homer in the eighth put the insurance run up on the board for the Indians to cap off their shutout of the Bears.

The Indians have just two more games left in the regular season. They'll play the Bears Saturday and Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. at Avista Stadium. Sunday's season finale is scheduled to include a fireworks display.
