The Washington State University volleyball team, off to a 14-1 start, including 3-1 in the Pac-10, is now ranked for the first time since 2003. The Cougars came in at number 25 this week.
And the rest of the country seems to be taking notice of the Cougars' dramatic improvement under second-year head coach Andrew Palileo.
ESPN.com just published this article on how the dedications of WSU's four seniors have helped bring the Cougars back to the prominence they haven't seen on the Palouse since Cindy Fredrick left in 2003.
The Cougars advanced to the Elite Eight in 2002 and finished the season ranked seventh nationally. But since Frederick left, the program had struggled mightily, until Palileo arrived from South Dakota State in April 2008.
And now, in a turnaround that's happened even faster than Palileo himself expected, WSU appears to be on track for the kind of success that once expected in Pullman.
