Colfax senior Sam Mellor is not only an accomplished trombone and violin player, he is also helping the Bulldogs make sweet music on the football field.
The lineman doesn't have to search very far to find a former state champ. In fact, he can look around the dinner table.
“Everyone of my siblings except for maybe one has a state championship or multiple so that's what I'm aiming for right now because I have to join the family... gotta join the club,” Mellor said.
The all-league standout is leading the Bulldogs in the right direction. They are 10-0 this season thanks, in part, to their physical senior leader.
“I just love being out here with the guys and hitting people mostly,” Mellor said.
Hi coach recognizes his hard work.
“He's been typical of our Colfax kids, just a hard worker, great in the classroom, great student, great leader, he's a typical Mellor when he comes out and gives you everything he's got every time in practice and every game,” Coach Mike Morgan said.
Mellor isn't alone out there. In fact, he's one of three seniors on the line to earn all league honors.
“It's been a great experience with a great bunch of guys and I'm just glad I have most of them on my team instead of the other team,” Mellor said.
He hopes they can help him bring his own state title to the table the next time the family gets together.
